Biographical / Historical

This commemorative photo album was presented by the Boy Scouts Association (Hong Kong Branch) on behalf of the "Scouters and Scouts of Hong Kong" on April 6th 1929, to Mr. C H. Blason (nicknamed "King of Shek O), who was the Hon. Treasurer from 1922-1929, the Assistant Commissioner & Editor of the "Silver Wolf" from 1925-1929, on the occasion of his retirement and return to the UK. Blason was very active in Hong Kong Scouting during the interwar years. In 1924, Waldegrave, the Colony Commissioner, Blason, and two Chinese Boy Scouts represented Hong Kong at the Imperial Jamboree in Wembley, Britain (see Paul Kua, Scouting in Hong Kong, 1910-2010, pp. 109, 115.) This album was donated to the Scout Association of Hong Kong by descendants of Blason and/or Waldegrave in the 1980s (?), and custody of the album, along with several others from the same interwar period, was passed onto the Public Relations Branch of the Association.

Extent

1 Volumes (One bound photo album containing multiple leaves.) : This photo album is bound in hard covers, and contains a "title page" and a number of pages each dedicated to the photos of a particular Scout Group then active in Hong Kong. The pages are numbered from 1 to 36 (see also biographical/historical and extent notes below).

Existence and Location of Originals

Initially, the Hong Kong Scout Archives has on hand ONLY a scanned copy of this album. The physical album was originally in the hands of the Public Relations Branch of the Scout Association of Hong Kong, as it was donated to the Association earlier on, before the Archives was set up. Since 2019, this album has been transferred physically to the Hong Kong Scout Archives for secured and fire-resistant storage.

Extent

This album was incomplete at the time of the scanning, with several pages already missing, viz., pp. 6, 21-24, 28, 34-35. It is not known if there were pages beyond p. 36. Furthermore , some photos were missing from p. 3 (3 photos missing), p. 7 (1 photo missing). p. 10 (1 photo missing), p. 31 (2 photos missing), The original album has been and is still in the custody of the Public Relations Branch of the Association.
