Content Description

This is an old photo album consisiting of 63 large-size leaves with paste-on photos of Hong Kong Scout Groups etc from 1920 to 1932, with front adn back covers. All leaves have multiple photos, some with captions, covering the activities and personnel of Hong kong Scouting during the pre-WWII period of Rev. Waldegrave, who served as the Chief Commissioner from 1921 to 1934. There are many photos from the 1st Hong Kong Sea Scouts. a troop under Waldegrave.

As all the photos have been fully scanned by the PR Branch for future access and use, access to this physical volume would be unnecessary unless in very EXCEPTIONAL situations. Written pre-approval of the Association Archivist or the ACC of the PR Branch would be required for any request for physical access based on clearly demonstrated needs.

Additional Description

Immediate Source of Acquisition

This album, being a donation to the Association from descendants of the original album owner, was transferred from the PR Branch to the Asssociation Archives for repairs, accessioning, cataloguing and secure and fire-resistant storage in May 2017, with the approval of the Chief Commissioner of the Association

Materials Specific Details

All captions of the photos, if any, are in English only. Many of the captions are rather faded and often difficult to read.

Condition Description

Most photos are in good to very good conditions, given age and the fact that they were glued onto the page. Some leaves are in rather poor conditions with damaged edges and missing binding portions making re-binding into a album impossible without repairs. Some photos are missing or had been cut out earlier on, esp. for the publication of the booklet entitled 75 Years of Hong Kong Scouting in 1987. Binding iswas also missing. Some pages have been repaired during the initial phase of accessioning, while more extensive repairs are needed before this volume can be rebind.
