Scope and Contents

This collection is consisted of a large number of folders containing original records and other related documents used for the appointment, transfer and de-commissioning of both the uniformed adult Scout Leaders and Commssioners and the non-uniformed adult Advisors and Adminstrators (supporters) of the (Boy) Scout Associationi of Hong Kong (and its precedessor organisation, the Boy Scout Association, Hong Kong Branch), from the 1940s through to the 2000s. It includes appoinment forms, nomination forms, endorsement forms, C.V.s, and other related records and letters used during the processing of appointments, transfers, retirements, resignations, and other de-commissionings of the Adult Members prior to the issuance/cancellation of Warrants/Certificates of Appointments.

Abstract

This collection is composed of records created by the Administration Branch (and its predecessor functional department) of the (Boy) Scout Association of Hong Kong related to the appointments of its Adult Members (uniformed or non-uniformed) from the 1940s through to the 2000s.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

The collection of records was transferred to the Hong Kong Scout Archives by the Administration Branch of the Scout Association of Hong Kong in 2009. It was initially processed in the same year, and re-processed in September, 2015.

Existence and Location of Copies

Many of the more recent records of the active Adult Members have been duplicated onto the Association's electronic membership records management system which has gone through several generations and is now entitled the Scout Membership Information System (SMIS). These records have been continuously updated in SMIS.

Materials Specific Details

Most early records are in English only, while considerable amount of the later records are in English and Chinese or in Chinese alone.

Physical Description

Many earlier records from the 1940s through to the 1960s are fragile and brittle, some are damaged to some extent, and care must be exercised when accessing.

The collection of over 40 linear feet of records are organized into many large 3-ring binders, arranged alphabetically, and stored in secured storage area.
